Youth Community Support Agency (YCSA) works to empower BME young people aged 10-25, and provides supports to their parents/carers. YCSA was horrified to learn of the stabbing in the Park Inn Hotel and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this.
YCSA has been raising concerns widely since the start of lockdown over the unsuitability of this accommodation, and of moving asylum seekers from their homes into hotel rooms. We know the impact this has had on the mental health of young people we work with.
We call upon the Mears Group and the Home Office to quickly resolve this situation before any other tragedies occur and to ensure that proper supports are in place to support asylum seekers.
As an organisation committed to ending racism and to the
promotion of equality, and as providers of support to Black and Minority Ethnic
(BME) young people and families, we are here for people who may have been
directly impacted by this event or from hearing about it. We have a limited
number of phones and data we can provide, plus tablets we can loan to people
within that age range.
If you have been impacted by this, please get in touch with YCSA on 07842 792843 or our counselling project on 07842 791418.
